Apple to ask clearer permission before Mac apps see everything

A quiet stretch for owners, with one change coming from Apple to how Mac apps get access to all your files.

Models and products

New AI tools and features, and assistants arriving in apps you already use.

  • Apple says Mac apps will need very explicit permission for full access

Apple says it will add new controls so an app can get Full Disk Access, which lets it see files, mail, messages and browsing history, only with very explicit action from the user. Apple says the risks grow as AI agents get more capable, and the report gives no date.

Why it matters: If an AI helper app on your office Mac asks to see all your files, mail and messages, expect a clearer, more explicit step before you allow it.
