OpenAI will merge the Chat and Work tabs in ChatGPT

ChatGPT's tabs will merge, Gemini can edit files in the chat, Chrome can fill forms from Gmail, and Grok Bot limits ran out.

Models and products

New AI tools and features, and AI arriving in apps you already use.

  • OpenAI will merge the Chat and Work tabs in ChatGPT

OpenAI emailed users that it will merge the Chat and Work tabs in the ChatGPT desktop app, first for select users. TechCrunch reports ChatGPT and the Codex coding tool will share one usage allowance, which OpenAI says will not affect most users, though some may wait for resets more often.

Why it matters: If your office leans on the ChatGPT desktop app for quotes and replies, OpenAI says some people may wait for usage resets more often once the allowance is shared.

  • The Gemini app can now create and edit files in the chat

Google says the Gemini app can now create, preview and edit documents, spreadsheets, slide decks and PDFs right in the chat. It is available now to all Google Workspace customers and personal Google accounts, on the web, with PDFs on phones too.

Why it matters: If you draft quotes or price lists with Gemini, Google says you can now preview and edit the file right in the chat on the web.

  • Chrome can fill in web forms using details from your Gmail

TechCrunch reports Chrome can suggest details from your Gmail, like order numbers, tracking information and addresses, when you fill in a form. It is rolling out to US users on desktop and in Gemini in Chrome on iOS and Android, and you can turn it on or off in settings.

Why it matters: If Chrome on the office computer is signed in to the business Gmail, check this setting, because details from that inbox could be offered as form suggestions.

Rules and prices

Laws, rulings and price changes that affect which AI tools you can use or what you pay.

  • Musk says Grok Bot cost too much, and users hit limits

TechCrunch reports some Grok Bot users found their weekly usage limits suddenly maxed out over Halloween weekend, and Elon Musk wrote on X that the cost of serving Grok Bot was unsustainably high relative to revenue. Musk has not said how limits will change from here.

Why it matters: If you pay for Grok Bot to help with office work, your weekly limit may run out sooner, and Musk has not said what the new limits are.
