- A chat assistant for everyday questions and writing: quotes, replies, follow-ups, and reading files you attach. Its Work helper takes on longer jobs, like research, a spreadsheet, or a report, and can run on a schedule.

- What it costs
- Free; Go $8 a month; Plus $20; Pro from $100. Personal plans are monthly only. Business is $20 per person a month paid yearly or $25 monthly, for 2 to 200 people. Free and Go may show ads.
- Where your data goes
- On personal plans, OpenAI may train on your chats unless you switch off “Improve the model for everyone” in Settings, Data controls. Business plans aren’t used for training by default. Work asks you to approve important actions.
- What you need first
- An account, age 13 or older (under 18 with a parent’s okay), on the web, iPhone, or Android. Work runs on the desktop app on every plan, and on web and phone from Plus up.
- Where it stands
- Long-running: launched November 30, 2022. OpenAI has retired its older “agent” in favor of Work, and paused new sign-ups to the $200 Pro plan on September 10, 2026.
- Who it suits
Good fit if you want one assistant for quotes, customer replies, and follow-ups, and are fine turning off training in settings.
Not a fit if you need something to answer the shop phone; it doesn’t.
