What it does
A dot is a named helper in ChatGPT that keeps working toward goals you set, even between chats. It runs on its own cloud computer, can use connected apps, and can read or change repeating tasks in ChatGPT Work.
Who makes it
OpenAI, San Francisco, California.
What it costs
Included with ChatGPT Pro and Business Premium at no extra charge. It uses the same usage limits as the rest of your plan.
Where your data goes
It runs in OpenAI’s cloud on a computer tied to your account. On personal plans, OpenAI may train on your chats unless you turn off “Improve the model for everyone” in Settings, Data controls. Business plans aren’t used for training by default.
What you need first
A ChatGPT Pro or Business Premium plan and the ChatGPT app on iPhone or Android to create a dot. OpenAI’s notes also mention home screen shortcuts on iPhone.
Where it stands
New: OpenAI introduced dots on September 29, 2026. OpenAI writes the name in lowercase, “dots.”
Who it suits

Good fit if you already pay for ChatGPT Pro or Business Premium and want a helper that keeps working on goals between chats.

Not a fit if you need the office phone answered; dots stay inside ChatGPT.
