Hermes Agent
A free assistant you install on your own computer and message from Telegram, WhatsApp, Slack, or email.
- What it does
- A free, open-source assistant that runs on your own computer, remembers what you tell it, and can run scheduled jobs like reports on its own. You message it from Telegram, Discord, Slack, WhatsApp, Signal, or email.
- Who makes it
- Nous Research, Inc., a Delaware company.
- What it costs
- The software is free. You pay whichever AI company runs the thinking. Nous sells that too: Free (free models only), Plus $20, Super $100, and Ultra $200 a month, each with usage credits. Hosting it in Nous’s cloud costs about $0.56 to $1.09 a day while running.
- Where your data goes
- On your computer, chats and memory stay on your computer, and Hermes sends no usage data. If you use Nous’s own service, its terms allow training on your data unless you turn on Privacy Mode. By default it screens the commands it runs for risky ones; a setting can switch that off.
- Setup time
- Nous says under two minutes to install, or about 60 seconds in its cloud.
- What you need first
- A Mac (macOS 12 or later), Windows 10 or 11, or Linux, and an account with an AI company to do the thinking.
- Where it stands
- An active open-source project since July 2025; the latest release came out September 24, 2026.
- Who it suits
Good fit if someone in the shop enjoys installing and looking after software, and wants an assistant in the chat apps you already use.
Not a fit if nobody will set it up, update it, and keep an eye on what it does.
