Smith.ai
An AI receptionist that can hand hard calls to a live person, or live receptionists on their own, billed per call.
- What it does
- Two services. The AI receptionist answers first and can pass a hard call to a live person in North America. The live receptionists are people who answer, take messages, and book.
- Who makes it
- Smith.ai, Inc. It started in Palo Alto, California, and says it now works fully remotely.
- What it costs
- AI: free for 25 calls a month, then $3 a call; paid plans from $150 a month for 75 calls. Live people: from $300 a month for 30 calls, $11.50 for each extra; booking is $1.50 a call more. Month to month, with 30 days’ notice to cancel the AI plan.
- Where your data goes
- Recordings and transcripts are kept 90 days. Smith.ai’s terms say it shares ownership of your call information with you, uses it to run and improve the service, and never sells it; they don’t say whether it trains AI. It books on your connected calendar without asking.
- What you need first
- Call forwarding to a Smith.ai number. The live people book into Jobber and Housecall Pro through each one’s online booking link, and add ServiceTitan call notes; the AI books through Calendly and similar tools.
- Where it stands
- Smith.ai says it has answered over 20 million calls in 10 years. AI booking is marked new.
- Who it suits
Good fit if you want an AI first, with a real person for the hard calls, and you use Housecall Pro or Jobber.
Not a fit if you get so many calls that a per-call price costs more than a flat monthly one.
