What a skill is
A skill is a saved way of working: the steps, layout, and rules for one kind of job, like a quote. The assistant follows it when that job comes up.
Not the same as a prompt
A prompt is a request you type once. A skill saves it, so the job comes out the same each time.
Not a Project or Gem
Project and Gem instructions apply to every chat inside them. A skill covers one job, and is used only for that job.
Chat and prompts first
Get a prompt working on a real job. Save a skill only when you keep pasting the same thing.
Who has them
Claude calls them skills, and ChatGPT extras (apps or plugins) can include them. Others may use another name; search your settings for “skills.”
